Wear and tear of items
In the W.E.L.L. world clothing and items, available to a character, are prone to amortization and can be damaged by physical or magic action. When suffering physical damage, the amortization rate of clothing and armor, shield and weapons goes up. The damage caused by magic affects characteristics of items kept in the inventory as well.
Items with no margin of safety left are considered to be broken. The following rules apply to them:
Broken weapons disappear from character’s hands, but stay in the same slot, from which they can be moved to the inventory slot.
Damaged clothes stay on the character, while loosing all its attributes.
You can’t move broken items from the inventory to the character’s doll.
Damaged items can be fixed by a character him/herself or taken to a special NPC, where they do professional repairing. In the first case repair of items is possible only if a character has a special “repair kit”. However, the new margin of safety will be lower than the initial one and will never be able to reach the original maximum. Meanwhile, paid NPC services with professional repairing imply full return of margin of safety.
Some items available to W.E.L.L. characters are not prone to damage or amortization in no circumstances.
Especially rare items, falling out to loot from powerful monsters, have an ageing characteristic. These items are single copies that fall apart after a certain period of time. After this, such an item can fall to loot again when another powerful monster is killed by a fortunate character.
In case of selling an item to an NPC-merchant, its cost is determined with its amortization in mind. Items with ageing characteristic can not be sold to NPC.
