Banks
In the W.E.L.L. world every character can use a well-developed bank system. There are several reasons to keep your money and belongings in a bank. Firstly, it is a guarantee against theft. Secondly, this way a character will not have to carry things he does not use frequently at all times (thus, again, becoming a potential victim of theft) and come back home for them every time they are needed. You can get back the thing you need not only at a bank it was deposited at, but at any branch. Thirdly, when depositing money a character is able to perform non-cash payments at stores. For the sake of gamers’ convenience there are ATM machines in every town, where characters can deposit or withdraw cash from their accounts.
Special cells (containers) are used to keep belongings in a bank. Initially every gamer has a bank cell to keep money and up to 30 items accessible to a particular player and also money and up to six items accessible to all characters within the account. A gamer does not pay anything for using such bank cells.
The following services are to be paid for:
- Purchase of additional space (slots) to keep belongings in bags
- Magic transportation (transfer) of items from one bank to another (ability to get back belongings not at a bank they were stored at)
- Transfer of money from a personal cell of a particular character to a public zone of money keeping where they are available to all characters within the account
- Other services
Time and cost of transferring money or belongings from one bank to another depend on several factors. Primarily it is the distance between a sending bank and a receiving bank. Whether they are located on the same continent and whether the transfer is being made within an Alliance or between two different ones is also taken into consideration. Some other social, economical, and political factors play a role in determining the price of a transfer.
Stolen and prohibited items can not be stored at a bank, and the very attempt to do so can lead to an arrest of an item’s owner. But even with these rules, after the gamer’s arrest, his cell can be searched to see if there are any prohibited or suspicious items. In the modern world the police can not rely on honesty and law-abidance of an ordinary bank clerk.
